My radio journey
In a GCSE Music song composition, I sang the lyrics
"when I was just a little girl, I dreamed of being a star, on the radio."
Little did I know that seed was so firmly planted into my mind that I made it happen!
My fascination with radio and presenting started when I was interviewed on BBC Radio Northampton aged 10 and as soon as I was old enough to volunteer on Kettering Hospital Radio, I was straight through the door ward visiting and hosting my first ever show. Upon starting my degree studies at UEA in Norwich, I became heavily involved with the student radio station, Livewire, and Community station, Future Radio. My involvement with Livewire proved as important to me as my degree and culminated with me becoming Station Manager in my final year.
After graduating, I gave myself a deadline... 6 months in the "real" world and if I hadn't found a job in radio, I would travel the world. Luckily the world is still there for me to explore because I landed myself a full time internship at Heart Home Counties on the Breakfast Show as producer and from there went on to launch a brand new breakfast show as producer and co-host on More Radio across Sussex, to BFBS, the Forces Station, where I currently work.
If you don't have a forces background, you may never have heard of BFBS - in which case, you should definitely give us a listen.
I am absolutely thrilled and proud to be with such an incredible and rewarding station. Not only do I now host a show worldwide across the entire forces world, I also get the opportunity to live amongst our personnel supporting and providing them with morale boosts and entertainment on and off the airwaves. From two years on the local breakfast show in Gibraltar, to eight months on the worldwide Ops breakfast show in Bahrain - where I was the first presenter in over 40 years to go live on FM from Bahrain. I am now on the afternoon show in Brunei as Principal Programmer, overseeing the output on the English Service provided locally across Brunei and Diego Garcia.
